Show me another »I want opinions on new model road bicycles?
it will be my first road bike purchase. im looking in the $1100 range. it will be primarily for general fitness training, but may also get started in some competition if i like it. any personal experience with any models and brands, pitfalls, tips would be greatly appreciated. if it helps im currently leaning toward the Fuji Roubaix. thanks!!!!

My wife is also considering a road bike, and the Specialized Allez Comp can be had on sale for about $1300, while the Allez Elite retails for $1100.
The differences are the Comp has FULL Shimano 105 and Mavic wheels, whereas the Elite has a Tiagra/105 component mix (lower quality) and Alex wheels (essentially heavy no-name hoops.
For the $200 price difference, you would have to spend about $800 more for the same components.
I agree with the other guy- Felt has good bang for your buck, and make very nice bikes. Generally speaking, look for name brand wheels and as much105/Ultegra componentry as you can, but in the end you need to get the bike that feels good and fits YOU the best.

- I am partial to Felt bicycles. You get more bang for the buck. A little better components for the money than Specialized or Trek. Look into Giant bicycles as well. Go to all of the bike stores in your area and test ride all the bikes in your price range. Pick the one that fits the best and you like the looks of.
