3 Essential Mountain Bike Buying Tips - What You Need to Know
By Lee Myring

With summer in full swing you may be considering buying a mountain bike to improve your fitness and to have some fun in the fresh air, but it is easy to waste a lot of money buying the wrong bike.

When buying a mountain bike there are a few simple but essential tips which you must follow to ensure that you get the bike most suited to your needs and the best deal for your money. Like a lot of things in life, cheap is normally cheap for a reason so follow these three simple tips to get the most from your money.

Tip Number 1 - Decide what are you using the mountain bike for?

Arguably the most important consideration is to ascertain what the bike will be used for - this will dictate the kind of bike most suited to you. If you are just going for cycling with a little off road stuff then there is little to be gained by going for a full suspension bike, however if you are an all terrain or downhill fan then a full suspension will fit the bill. Be careful however that unless you have a lot of money for your purchase for the same budget a hardtail will most likely be lighter, better specified and more suitable for general use.

Tip Number 2 - Set yourself a budget and stick to it

Following on from above, it is too easy to spend a lot of money needlessly, or talk yourself into buying something that you don't really need. If you are just going cruising or cross country then spending a lot of money on a high end full suspension will be a waste of money. Conversely if you intend on free riding and downhill then a hard tail will not be the ideal choice of ride. Be aware however, at the budget end of the market, full suspension bikes tend to be heavy, components are cheaper to offset the cost of the additional parts required, and maintenance requirements are more than with a hard tail.

Tip Number 3 - Go for quality where possible

This might sound obvious but a cheap mountain bike is exactly that, a compromise of quality over price. In order to get the price down there will be compromises on every level, materials, quality of the running gear, how it has been assembled. Buying cheap may prove to be a false economy and end up costing you more in the long run. A cheap mountain bike is likely to be heavy, prone to breakdown and require more repairs and maintenance. In a lot of cases buying a quality second hand bike is better than buying a budget new bike.

How do you make a stunning, animated, entertaining PowerPoint Presentation?
The PowerPoint that I'm working on is supposed to relay information about the elements, and compounds, that go into a bicycle. I need to show which part they go into, and the properties (physical/chemical) of each element/compound. I also have to show the process of how it is manufactured/created/grown. I got all the information, with animations and all that, but in PPT 2010, there was a template. This template, created by Duarte, showed an amazing presentation. I wish to make mine similar. So, anyone out there with knowledge of PowerPoint (and Duarte), please provide some details on how to make it like that template. P.S. I have PPT 2007, which is similar, but if there's anything different in terms of animation please say so. Thanks in advance!

How do you ride a bicycle on the streets?
Hi. I'm planning to buy a second-hand bike. I don't know if I should get a mountain bike or road bike. I can ride both I think(well I was riding my friend's the other day). Is having a basket in the front of the bike a bad idea? Will people steal my bag? I'm going to live somewhere half-an-hour away(by foot) from my university. And I thought better get a bike. I usually walk everywhere or catch the tram. So I'm not very accustomed to vehicles traffic lights and rule. Although I have just gotten my licence in another country I have not driven a car for years. I'm in Melbourne Australia.

Well Defined Abs in a Month Goal?
Alright, so swimming season's coming up real soon and honestly I'm really psyched. But, there's a lot of really cut guys at my school so I wanna look sharp when we actually start hitting the swimming pool. I got about 7-9% bodyfat so I don't need any more cardio. So, realistically, if I did an hour of abs just doing crunches, bicycles, and planks everyday starting from beginning of February till the end, will I get really defined abs? Also, I need to emphasize that I already have a flat stomach. No copy and paste answers about how "you need to cut fat before you work abs." Or some random linking to fitness websites. I already know the basic mechanics of fitness but all I need is a good opinion on my goal to whether it's realistic or not. Plus, don't mention anything about working anything other than abs because conditioning's already hitting everything pretty hard. Plus, to further clarify: Removing any more "fat" from my belly would make me a skeleton. At this point, it's all about building muscle. Everything else is pretty defined except my abs, so I don't need to remove any "layer of fat" to have "visible abs." My goal is purely for cosmetic purposes, but the strengthening of the core'll most likely help me in some way.
